Firstly, I would like to thank all of the staff members that helped me during my time at The Barlow over the past 5 years. I have experienced the most amazing opportunities and been pushed academically right until the end for the best chance at a future where I can choose whatever I want to be. Over the last academic year, I experienced losing a parent, this brought a lot of challenges with trying to be in school and get the grades I wanted to achieve at GCSE level. However, with the support from the amazing teachers I was able to achieve all of my GCSEs. The uniqueness in the way they teach is impeccable. I would like to thank Mrs McGhee; she took all the time in the world just to make sure that you properly understood any topic and she changed my mind on maths completely. She is a teacher who cares about her students and will help them no matter what. Mrs Staniforth was both a listener and a teacher, she is an amazing woman with the kindest heart she helped me excel in Spanish and always went above and beyond to make me feel happy and safe in what can be a hectic school environment. She was a big support for me and has the biggest passion to help anyone in need; she never failed to make me smile and always goes out of her way to support any child.

The pastoral team at The Barlow – Mrs Bywater and Miss Livings are staff you want to go and see no matter what the situation. They are the best listeners. They always go out of their way to make a safe place for a child to go.

Mrs Seddon was a key part of my final chapter at The Barlow, as she showed me how many people I had for support and was my motivation for my last push before my examinations. She took her time to help me in any way she could. She is amazing. When I doubted myself, Mrs Seddon was there to prove me wrong as she sat everyday calming my anxiety and telling me that I could do it when I thought I couldn’t. She was a big part of my time at The Barlow as my first English teacher in Year 7 too, and my right-hand during GCSEs. Miss Seggie was another massive part of my time at The Barlow, she was more than just a teacher to me she was someone who I trusted fully. She never failed to put a smile on my face. Most importantly to me she also supported me through my bereavement. Miss Seggie is a very special teacher, and she holds a special place in mine and my mum’s heart. I will forever remember Miss Seggie as she is so unique in every way and has a special bond with each of her students. Words couldn’t describe a person like Miss Seggie, the compassion she has is like no other and the support she gave me was astounding.

Ms Wallace is the heart of The Barlow and is more than a Headteacher – she is willing to help any student that walks through the gate and always went beyond expectations to make my experience at school easier. She cares about what a child has to say and tries her best to help anyone she can. She is an amazing Headteacher.

Thank-you. A former pupil of The Barlow.
