Raising the Participation Age:

The Education and Skills Act 2008 set out that from 2015 all 16 and 17 year-olds will be required to participate in education or training. It is Government policy that from 2015, all young people are expected to stay in some form of learning until they are 18.

Pupils will be able to choose from the following options:

Full-time education, such as school sixth form or FE college

Work-based learning, for example as an apprentice

Part-time education or training, if they are employed, self-employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week
